Online Workshop with Lota Jansdotter

Lotta Jansdotter is a self-taught artist, designer, author and teacher whose work is recognised for its organic motifs and understated Scandinavian sensibility. Since the mid-1990s she has created distinctive print patterns for textiles and homewares, developing a practice that brings together hand printing, drawing and a thoughtful approach to everyday living.

Over the course of her career she has written twelve books and collaborated with retailers, museums and makers around the world, while continuing to refine a visual language rooted in simplicity and nature. Now based on the Åland Islands in the Baltic Sea, between Sweden and Finland, her recent work has turned towards sustainability, transforming pre-loved linens and forgotten fabrics into one-of-a-kind pieces that honour both the original cloth and the stories it carries. By combining her printing expertise with rescued textiles, she creates work that reflects a more mindful and enduring way of making.

Event Description
Lotta invites participants to join her virtually at her kitchen table on the Åland Islands for a workshop in stencil printing on vintage and reclaimed cloth. Using preloved fabrics sourced from thrift stores, the session explores how simple hand-cut stencils can be used to create fresh patterns and contemporary designs while giving overlooked textiles a new life.

Lotta will begin by sharing her own techniques for designing motifs, cutting stencils and planning a composition before guiding participants as they experiment on their own fabric. Throughout the workshop she will offer practical advice, creative encouragement and ideas for turning printed cloth into meaningful objects for the home.

Workshop Level
Suitable for all levels, the session offers an accessible introduction to small-scale textile printing, with participants leaving with new skills, renewed inspiration and a set of exclusive stencil designs created by Lotta especially for the workshop.

Workshop Location
A Zoom link will be sent to participants the week before the workshop.

Workshop Recording
This workshop will be a one-off live event in order that participants may fully engage and respond to each other in real time. It will not be recorded.

Event Cancellation Policy
All bookings are non-refundable. However, if you let us know that you are unable to attend an event you have booked at least two weeks before the event, we will open up your place. If we find another participant, you will be offered a credit note.
