Saturday 19 September, 2.30 - 5 p.m.: Open Studio, Demonstration and Talk: Behind the Print with Clarissa Hulse

Clarissa Hulse Studio, 29 Corsica St, London N5 1JT

Clarissa Hulse designs beautiful and luxurious homeware from her studio in North London, with an emphasis on botanical imagery and bold colour. Clarissa’s designs are based on her nature photography, which is just as likely to originate from a tropical rainforest as it is to feature leaves from Highbury Fields- a stone’s throw from her studio.

Clarissa was born in Prague where her parents were living due to her father working there as a diplomat. The family moved around a lot and lived in Bangkok, Brussels, Athens, and Vienna with summers spent in her mother’s native Greece. She attributes her love of textiles and interiors to her nomadic childhood as every time they moved, her mother would make the new house feel homely with beautiful textiles and handicrafts from local markets. She was also a plant enthusiast and would fill the house with botanical finds.

Event Description
Join renowned textile designer Clarissa Hulse as she opens her doors for an exclusive afternoon spent behind the scenes at her magical Alladin’s cave of a studio, as part of London Textile Month 2026. Known for her vivid, nature-inspired textiles and bold botanical prints, Hulse will share insights into her creative process — from getting out in nature to choosing colour palettes and finalising a design.

During this 2-hour session, a small group of guests will hear from Hulse about the journey of her 25 years in business, have a rare chance to see her sketch books and mood boards spanning decades, and hear all about her inspiration and design process. She will demonstrate screen printing, showcasing the techniques behind her signature style and a few lucky attendees will even have the chance to roll up their sleeves and try their hand at printing too! Guests will have an opportunity to shop, with a 10% discount, a curated selection of Hulse's designs – from hand-printed backing cloth artworks to luminous cashmere scarves.

Whether you're a budding textile designer, a lover of colour and pattern, or simply curious about the artistry behind contemporary British textiles, this event offers a rare opportunity to learn from one of the industry’s leading lights.
