Saturday 1 & 8 August 2026, 2 - 5pm BST: From Repetition to Reflection with Hansika Sharma
Online Workshop with Hansika Sharma
Saturday 1 & 8 August 2026, 2 - 5pm BST (British Summer Time)
Hansika Sharma is a textile artist whose central concerns are the colour indigo, complexity of embroidered surfaces, transformation and is informed by the philosophy of self reflection.
Sharma has developed a connection with the colour Indigo as a colour of her soul, drawing similarities with the History of Indigo that changed the world and politics in a way, as well as its personal mysterious chemical nature of getting alchemised from green to the deepest darkest beautiful form of blue. The character of the colour Indigo that can range from being a depressive dark energy to the most soothing beautiful energy relates to the artist’s personal history and challenges with fighting melancholy and getting drawn towards an ocean of calm at the same time.
Sharma's work further explores and responds to constant personal evolution, changing philosophies, interactions with other people, complexity of human psychology that can be simplified and further investigation of its effect on socio-political subject matters.
The imagery of Sharma's work are threads embroidered in simple stitches forming an overall complex visual, which is added by cotton threads, Zaris and cords.
Workshop Description
In this workshop, you will explore embroidery as a meditative and intuitive practice. Far beyond mastering stitches, this session invites you to slow down and engage with making as a language of self‑reflection and inner listening. Rooted in quiet observation and mindful presence, the workshop encourages you to approach thread and cloth with curiosity, openness and intention.
Through a series of guided exercises, Sharma will support you to develop a personal visual vocabulary with thread, explore colour intuitively, and experiment with mark‑making as an extension of thought and emotion. Rather than focusing on technical outcomes, the emphasis is on the act of making itself — noticing rhythm and repetition, attending to subtle shifts in focus, and allowing time and touch to shape your responses.
Whether you are new to embroidery or have worked with thread before, this workshop offers a space to create from a place of presence and grounding, inviting embroidery to become a practice of clarity, expression and inner connection.
